Fabregas is Happy to stay at Arsenal

Fabregas: I am happy at Arsenal

CESC FABREGAS has handed Arsene Wenger a huge boost by declaring: I am happy at Arsenal.

Spain World Cup winner Fabregas, 24, has again been linked with a £35million return to his hometown side Barcelona.

And with the future of fellow Gunners Samir Nasri, Andrey Arshavin and Gael Clichy in doubt, Wenger is in danger of seeing his squad torn apart this summer.

But skipper Fabregas claims he has no intention of ending his stay at the Emirates. The midfielder said: "I am an Arsenal player.

"I won't step forward and say I want to join Barca. After eight years at Arsenal, I won't harm the club. That's not my way of being.

"I have been very happy for eight years and I am very happy."

When asked about the latest speculation linking him with a move back to Barca, he added: "I am not thinking about football right now, just about my holidays.

"There have been no decisions. The truth is that it doesn't always depend on the player and at the moment I don't know anything.

"Arsene Wenger is the boss, the one who makes the decisions. You should ask him. I was injured at the end of the season and I haven't seen him for about six weeks.

"I am very happy where I am. Anything else would be speculation that is untrue."

But Fabregas refused to comment on whether his long-term future would be at Arsenal.

He added: "You can never say never in this life as so many things happen that you can never predict."

Fabregas, who moved from Barcelona to London in 2003 at the age of 16, is seen as a natural replacement for playmaker Xavi, who turned 31 in January.

But despite admitting the Gunners' six-year trophy drought had left him frustrated, Fabregas insists his side can end their barren run next season.

He said: "A player who is not frustrated at not winning titles is either lying to himself or lacks ambition.

"There is a good team and a good manager and one of the most faithful fan bases in Europe.

"With those I believe we can make progress and one day win an important trophy."
